A Georgia father of five was found dead, rolled up in plastic and carpet on the side of the road after vanishing on a business trip in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
42-year-old Nathan Millard from Covington, Georgia, went missing after he visited Happy’s Irish Pub across from his hotel on the night of February 22. Millard’s wife told WSB-TV that he had gone to a college basketball game before heading to the bar.
His body was later found on the side of the road behind a funeral home six miles away from the last place he was seen. He was wrapped in plastic inside a carpet.
Police said there were no signs of blunt force trauma or gunshot wounds on the body. According to a preliminary report, the medical examiner found no external or internal trauma on the body. A final autopsy report will include toxicology findings.
“We don’t have any indication that there was any foul play involved,” said Captain Kevin Heinz of the violent crimes unit of the Baton Rouge Police. “We are looking into how he ended up where he was.”
WBRZ-TV reported that Millard had been cut off at the pub for being overly intoxicated and left at about 11:30 p.m. Police were able to find Millard on surveillance video before his death and said there were no signs of distress. They indicated that the last sighting before his death was at 4:30 a.m. that morning.
At some point the next day, Millard’s phone and wallet were found on the ground several blocks from his hotel. Two weeks later, on March 6, his body was found wrapped in the carpet after a bystander reported a foul smell.
His wife said the last time she spoke to him was when he called her on FaceTime from the basketball game to show her the seats he and his client had.
“It was not anything I ever thought would be my last call,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing.
