Navi Pillay, a South African-born jurist and former U.N. human rights chief, was awarded for her efforts to promote peace and international law.
Considering Pillay led a U.N. commission that found Israel committed genocide in Gaza, it’s a likely bet her win didn’t exactly thrill the president, who, along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, rejected the findings.
Of course, it doesn’t help that Trump has been obsessed with winning the Peace Prize for a long time, possibly since 2009, when former President Barack Obama received it.
Pillay referenced Machado in her first comments to the press after her win was announced.
“If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump,” Pillay joked to reporters.
JS reached out to the White House for comment, but no one immediately responded.
However, her joke at Trump’s expense was well received on social media.
