Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Drake Lindsey was arrested in Arkansas early May 1 on suspicion of possessing alcohol while underage and having false identification, according to authorities.
Lindsey, 20, was arrested by Fayetteville police and booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 1:13 a.m. local time for being a minor allegedly in possession of alcohol and fraudulent identification, a detention intake report showed.
Staff at a bar in Lindsey’s hometown of Fayetteville suspected that his ID was fake and alerted authorities, ESPN reported, citing a preliminary report. Lindsey allegedly admitted that his ID was fake and that he had consumed alcohol before appearing at the bar, according to the report. The police reportedly found the ID in Lindsey’s wallet.
He was released at 8:28 a.m. upon posting a $470 bond, the detention intake report revealed. He is scheduled to appear in Fayetteville District Court on June 1 and 29 over the charges. (RELATED: Sober Georgia College Football Player Arrested For DUI After Blowing 0.0 On Breathalyzer)

“We are aware of the situation and will address it internally,” a Gophers spokesperson told ESPN.
The 6′ 05″, 235-lb quarterback is three months away from the legal drinking age of 21.
Redshirted in 2024, Lindsey started all 13 games of the 2025 freshman season at quarterback and won a record eight games as a freshman quarterback. He completed 249 of 386 passes for 2,382 yards and 18 touchdowns against not more than six interceptions in that season.
Before joining the Gophers, he led his Fayetteville High School team in his senior year to an undefeated season and a state championship where he received the MVP award.
The Gophers start the 2026 season Sept. 3 with a home game against Eastern Illinois.
