A video resurfaced over the weekend showing Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) refuse to endorse Israel’s right to exist.
In December 2019, a woman who identified herself as a “concerned Jewish constituent” confronted Tlaib on Capitol Hill about Israel’s right to exist. But instead of answering the question, the video, which was obtained by Fox News, shows Tlaib mocking her constituent.
“You work for Netanyahu? Oh, no? The Likud Party!” Tlaib responded.
The constituent, having clearly identified herself as an American citizen, then told Tlaib that “it’s really concerning for me that you can’t just say that you believe Israel should exist.”
At that point, a visibly frustrated Tlaib questioned whether the constituent understands what “coexist” means.
“Oh, my God. Do you understand what that means? To coexist?” the congressman asked.
“I absolutely do,” the constituent responded.
“That everyone should coexist. Why isn’t that beautiful? That should mean coexist,” Tlaib responded. “That means everyone should feel safe, no matter who they are or what their background is.”
When the constituent asked if co-existence means Jews are allowed to live a country in which they feel safe, Tlaib shot back, “If it means my grandmother can’t exist equally as a human being then, no. Right? So coexist. Separate but equal doesn’t work.”
The interaction happened the same year that Tlaib appeared to suggest that Israel exists to the “detriment” of Palestine.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” network anchor Jake Tapper asked Tlaib the same question as the constituent — whether Israel has a “right” to exist in the land where it exists now — and Tlaib tried to deflect.
“I truly believe the state of Israel exists, correct,” Tlaib answered. “But, understand, does it exist in the detriment of inequality for the Palestinian people, detriment of not really moving forward in a peaceful resolution? We’re never going to have peace, I truly believe, if separate but equal is the way they want to go.
“We’re not going to have peace if we don’t understand that we are dehumanizing Palestinians every single day when we choose Israel over their rights,” she claimed.
Tlaib has called for a cease-fire in Gaza after Israel responded to Hamas’ brutal terrorist attacks. The White House later condemned her and other far-left Democrats for their remarks about the ongoing conflict.
