Attorney George Georgopoulos has reportedly filed suit against famous rapper Vic Mensa on behalf of the artist’s ex-landlord, who claims Mensa owes $8,340 in unpaid rent and fees.

Mensa pushed back against the allegations, arguing the landlord failed to provide adequate security measures despite numerous requests that were made, TMZ reported Friday. The landlord’s alleged negligence resulted in Mensa’s place being broken into while his girlfriend was home, a representative for Mensa told the outlet, citing police records. Mensa promptly moved out of the property in question because the alleged safety concerns, which is why he didn’t pay his rent, TMZ reported.

Georgopoulos referenced Mensa’s social media posts highlighting his flashy lifestyle, the outlet reported. The attorney argued Mensa was able to afford fancy watches and luxury cars, yet was failing to make good on his rent payments, according to TMZ. The representative from Mena’s camp pushed back, arguing the rapper’s ex-landlord “put the lives of Vic Mensa’s family in danger, particularly his girlfriend,” according to TMZ. The rep cited the break-in that reportedly happened while Mensa’s girlfriend was home in March. Police records reportedly showed a man was indeed arrested and charged for breaking and entering in Mensa’s apartment, and court records later confirmed the suspect had previously been arrested multiple times for battery and for a sex offender registry violation, according to TMZ.

The reported legal battle between both parties continues to unfold.
