“Saturday Night Live” writer Jimmy Fowlie told fans authorities said his sister, Christina Downer, is “no longer alive” months after requesting help to locate her.
Fowlie issued the statement Wednesday on Instagram, in part claiming that the case had become a homicide investigation. However, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said it’s not a homicide investigation in a statement reported Thursday by NBC News. The writer initially appealed to his followers days before Christmas 2025, saying, “[M]y sister has been missing and we are worried that she isn’t safe.”
“Her married name is Downer but she may go by Christina Fowlie. Please share this so that if anyone has seen her, they can give any information to the police,” he said at the time. He noted she was last seen in Los Angeles and provided police contact information for tip reporting.
In his heartbreaking Wednesday post, Fowlie told his followers, “The LAPD has informed our family that Christina is no longer alive, and the case has officially transitioned from a missing person to a homicide investigation.”
“Our prayers for her to be found safely have transformed into prayers for the truth to be revealed and for those responsible to be held accountable,” he continued.
The LAPD spokesperson noted law enforcement was actively investigating Downer’s disappearance in its statement to NBC News. “Robbery-Homicide division continues to investigate the disappearance of Christina Downer,” the spokesperson said. “Although the circumstances of her disappearance are suspicious, Ms. Downer has not been located, and her case has not been reclassified as a homicide.”
Fowlie made devastating allegations about the case in his most recent post, alongside family photos of his beloved sister.
“We have reason to believe that in the weeks before she went missing, her phone and social media were compromised,” he wrote on Instagram. “The individual(s) in possession of her phone used it to hide the fact she was gone, to ask for money, and to create a false narrative that she was going “off the grid.”
He didn’t share further details or suspect information.
Fowlie’s statement continued, “I am sharing this because I believe that whoever is responsible is hoping to erase her in every way possible.”
“I want to amplify her story in the only way I know how. And to express that she was a beautiful person who matters in this world, especially to me.”
The “Saturday Night Live” writer concluded his update by appealing to the public once more.
“I also believe there is a chance that someone who knows something might find the courage to step forward. My sister can no longer advocate for herself, but I can and I hope you will too.”
“The best way you could support me in this moment is to share this post and to talk about her story,” he wrote, before signing off. (RELATED: Outlaw Country Icon David Allan Coe Dead At 86)
Fowlie captioned the message with a request for information to be sent directly to the LAPD
He told fans he intends to take a “step back from social media due to the intense overwhelming feelings.”
