Sam Asghari broke his silence Thursday after filing for divorce from Britney Spears.
The “Family Business” star reportedly walked away from his marriage to Spears in spite of a prenup clause that stated he would earn $1 million for every two years the couple remained married, according to Page Six.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” Asghari wrote to his Instagram story, which self-deletes after 24 hours. “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.”
“Shit happens,” he added.
Asghari has already moved into a different home apart from Spears, an unnamed source told NBC News.
“Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic], so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful,” Asghari continued on Instagram.
Asghari and Spears signed a prenup prior to marrying in 2022. Reports circulated Wednesday suggesting Asghari is threatening to release confidential information about Spears to get his money, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Britney Spears’ Divorce Just Took A Very Ugly Turn: REPORT)
Asghari’s representative, Brandon Cohen, denied the blackmail allegations, calling them “false” and saying, “No negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her,” according to Page Six.
Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” in his court filing, according to NBC, and listed the date of their separation as July 28.
