‘Sound of Freedom’ to hit theaters worldwide in over 20 countries after nearly $150 million at domestic box office

Surprise hit movie “Sound of Freedom,” which details the horrors of human trafficking, is set to be shown in movie theaters across the world, production company Angel Studios has announced.

The movie has blown away all expectations and greatly surpassed even the best-case scenario speculation for its opening weekend and subsequent box office performance.

With a nearly $20 million opening, the movie has garnered a shocking $148,972,065 domestic gross at the time of this publication. The movie’s widest release was in 3,411 theaters, all in the United States.

However, parent company Angel Studios announced on July 26, 2023, that the film would begin worldwide distribution and be shown in over 20 countries.

“You ask, we answer. ‘Sound of Freedom’ is on its way around the world,” the movie studio said in a tweet.

The movie will open first in South Africa, then Australia and New Zealand, before appearing in Mexico and more than a dozen Central and South American countries. The United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain follow after that.

“Sound of Freedom” has defied odds despite mainstream outlets providing harsh criticisms of the movie.

The Guardian featured a headline that read: “‘Sound of Freedom’: the QAnon-adjacent thriller seducing America.”

The Washington Post said that the movie’s star “has openly embraced” QAnon ideas.” The outlet added, “The film’s villains are common criminals, not the shadowy cabal of occultists imagined by QAnoners.”

A Bloomberg article, republished by the Washington Post, said that “QAnon and ‘Sound of Freedom’ Both Rely on Tired Hollywood Tropes.”

However, the author of the Bloomberg review was found to have written several articles for a “child protection organization” that allegedly seeks novel ways of curbing child sexual abuse, while admittedly working with pedophiles. It also differentiates on its website between “pedophile” and “minor-attracted person,” claiming that “not everyone who experiences attractions to minors is a pedophile.”

The film’s lead actor, Jim Caviezel, responded to mainstream backlash by saying, “At least [the media] broke their silence. It means they can’t ignore this issue; they cannot ignore it.”

“They’re scared. Quaking in their boots. And it’s because the public are listening to their hearts, which is what this film tells you to do,” the actor added.

“Sound of Freedom” is based on a true story surrounding former Homeland Security Agent Tim Ballard, who founded Operation Underground Railroad in 2013. The organization has reportedly conducted several sting operations to rescue children, some of whom were outside the United States.
