Teenager and 2 horses killed in car accident after 3 teens steal horses in Texas

Three teenagers were involved in a car accident after stealing horses, and one of the teens died along with two of the horses.

Dallas police said the crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 45 between the three horse riders and a driver of a car.

A 14-year-old teenager died at the scene while the other two teenagers were transported to a hospital in stable condition. The other two teens were aged 16 and 17 years.

Police said that the car driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

One of the horses died at the scene while a second horse was euthanized by a veterinarian. A third horse was injured but will survive.

Police said no charges are expected against the car driver.

Lorenza Gooch told KDFW-TV that he was the owner of the horses that were stolen. He was surprised when he found out about the age of the teenager who had died.

“I didn’t realize he was that young, a 14-year-old? Yes, they made some bad choices. I’m kind of the victim of it. Bad choices,” he said.

The man said the surviving horse was named Logo Winner and was taken to the Lone Star Equine Hospital.

“She either fell or was struck by something. She’s scarred on the right side a little sore in the hind,” he added.

Gooch also said that he was likely going to give up horse racing after the incident.

“It’s enough obstacles in trying to race horses and enjoy the sport and two have your horses stolen and lose them this way and have to be concerned about someone stealing your horses and abusing them after they steal them,” he said.

Police said the teenagers might face charges after leaving the hospital.
