HOUSTON, Texas — Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo (D) took to social media to berate the county’s law enforcement officials and her fellow members of the County Commissioners Court over a state-mandated pay parity raise. In Texas, a county judge is the chief executive officer of the county.
From the back seat of her chauffeur-driven SUV, Judge Hidalgo attacks the salaries of other county elected officials and law enforcement officers under her jurisdiction as the head of the county in a video posted on Instagram. Constable deputies were recently given a substantial pay-parity raise to match what the City of Houston and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office pay their police officers. The Texas Comptroller’s Office later advised the County Attorney that the elected Constables must also receive the parity raise to match up to the pay of Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The constables rejected the increase and settled with the County for an amount that is significantly lower than Sheriff Gonzalez’s but higher than the chief deputies who work for the constables.

Hidalgo is retiring from her position as county judge after deciding not to run for re-election.
Judge Hidalgo made news earlier this year when she was kicked out of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo after she demanded that she and her entourage be allowed into a private event that required special, very expensive tickets for admission, Breitbart Texas reported.
