In his latest personal pat on the back, Trump bragged about winning the senior and super senior contests at his course in New Jersey earlier this month.
The 80-year-old made his comments on his Truth Social account, where he also shared a video of his greatness.
“The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship! Thank you very much to all of those who participated,” Trump posted before adding, “I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, because I’m focused on many other things.
“It’s called TALENT, and I have it, and they don’t!”
But Trump’s “talent” has been called out in the past by several of his partners as, in reality, “cheating.”
Among those slinging the accusation is long-time Trump critic De La Hoya, who was once chummy with the president – until the two played a round of golf together.
“Yes, I caught him,” De La Hoya said in 2016. “It was unbelievable. But I guess it was his course, so it was his rules.”
The former boxer, who competed from 1992 to 2008 and won11 world titles in six weight classes, recounted his experiences on a golf course at Trump National LA a few years earlier. The 53-year-old said he was about to start his round when Trump pulled up in a golf cart and asked to join. De La Hoya would soon regret his welcoming answer.
“First ball, Trump hits off to the water, gets another ball from his pocket,” De La Hoya recalled. “Hits it off to the left, out of bounds. Trump said, ‘Oh, I got another one, just warming up.’
“Another one to the water. Then the fourth ball he hits, I know it went to the bushes.”
But De La Hoya explained the president has a secret weapon to lie about his lies, claiming that Trump drove a modified golf cart that went faster than others, just so he could speed ahead of the rest of his group to move his ball into a better position.
“What [Trump] does, he tees off first so he can take off right away,” De La Hoya claimed. “I pipe mine down the middle. So we go off to our ball, and who do we see? Donald Trump, right in the middle of the fairway.”
As they pulled up, Trump said, “By the way, I found my first ball; it’s right here.”
De La Hoya and his friend weren’t buying it.
“We’re like, ‘OK, yeah.’ We’re cracking up, not in front of his face,” the boxer said. “Then we go on to a par-3. There’s a big bush right between the tee and the green, so you can’t really see the green – you can see the flag, not the green.
“Trump hits and we just know it went out of bounds. We know it. He takes off. We get up there, and he’s like, ‘Oh, my ball’s right here!’ Three feet away [from the hole]. ‘And by the way, I’m going to pick it up; it’s a gimme.'”
Other Trump partners have accused him of messing with his competitors’ games as well, kicking his opponents’ balls into sand traps.
“It shows something about his character,” De La Hoya blasted. “Golf is a gentleman’s sport. You don’t lie about your score, you don’t lie about moving your ball. It goes to show what we’re dealing with.”
Trump defended his sportsmanship after the champ’s remarks, insisting that he “respects the game too much to cheat and is good enough to have won a number of club championships.”
The president said he was forced to respond to the cheating accusations because “golf is a game built on integrity.”
