Donald Trump’s latest big crowd boast was brought down to earth with a bump by a C-SPAN camera operator.
During a midterms rally at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, the president once again took aim at the media as he boasted about the size of his audience in attendance.
“Look at this place. Every corner. They will say they spotted an empty seat,” he said, claiming “two miles long” lines of people outside who couldn’t get in.
“I tell people, ‘Please, please do not leave. Do not go to the bathroom.’ Because the fake news will take a picture of two empty seats and they’ll say Trump did not fill up,” he continued. “Who the hell fills up an arena like this, for a midterm? For a midterm?”
But as Trump made his boasts, C-SPAN’s shot panned across the upper sections of the venue, revealing dozens and dozens of empty seats.
Trump then appeared to offer an explanation for the gaps, appearing to suggest that people who had been sitting in the upper rows had moved elsewhere in the venue.
“And what they do is that the upper rows, you’ll see it, they sort of migrate downward and they all stay and by the time…” he said, trailing off. “We max out everything you’ve ever seen,” he then falsely claimed. “There’s never been anything like it.”
