Actor Chris Pratt responded to online hatred by quoting biblical scripture, and that led to even more bilious hatred from many online.
Pratt was being interviewed about his last movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3,” with Page Six when he made the comments.
“That’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know?” he replied.
“If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20,” he said. “That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too.”
He went on to say that he dealt with the criticism by mostly ignoring it.
“Oh, just how you deal with anything. Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin and if anyone gets in your way, you stick the horn right up their ass!” he joked.
“When it comes to rejection, I was trained in the crucible of door-to-door sales some 25 years ago,” Pratt added. “So, you can’t turn me away, there’s no stopping us.”
When Page Six published Pratt’s comments, many of his haters rushed to criticize him for supposedly comparing himself to Jesus Christ.
“When is Chris Pratt going to sell all his belongings and give the money to the poor like Jesus suggests? Or do we just get to skip parts of the Bible we don’t like?” asked one critic online.
“When you think he couldn’t possibly be any more of a prick, he compares himself to Jesus,” read another response.
“Am I being an idiot or does anyone else not see this as Chris Pratt essentially saying ‘I’m like Jesus’?” replied another hater.
Others pointed out that Pratt was simply pointing to the biblical teaching that the followers of Jesus Christ would be hated just as he was.
Pratt also scored another blockbuster hit as the voice actor portraying the “Super Mario” video game character in the “Super Mario Bros.” movie that has garnered over $1.16 billion in revenue worldwide.
