The White House took Donald Trump’s latest insult for Democrats to a new level of cringe on Tuesday in a move that critics condemned as “embarrassing” and “propaganda.”
After weeks of Trump repeatedly referring to Democrats as “Dumocrats” in public, and often pausing to painfully explain the joke, the White House unveiled a superhero movie/comic-book-style logo for the GOP’s rival party.
The graphic featured a large metallic “D” set against an eerie green glow, with the word “Dumocrats” emblazoned beneath it.
Trump has increasingly leaned on the term in recent weeks.
Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity last month, the president falsely claimed he’d come up with the insult and said: “Because they’re dumb. They’re dumb. It’s D-U-M. I got rid of the B. So you’re only changing one letter, right? E goes, and the U comes. It’s a Dumocrat.”
