Chris Christie blasts Trump: ‘Not a man of his word’; creates ‘chaos and turmoil’

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a possible Republican presidential primary contender, offered pointed remarks on the potential arrest of former President Trump on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday morning.

“[Trump] only profits and does well in chaos and turmoil. And so he wants to create the chaos and turmoil on his terms. He doesn’t want it on anybody else’s terms,” Christie said.

“Donald Trump’s not a man of his word,” Christie also said.

“Ask those folks whether [Trump] stood by them and by his promises,” Christie added, referring to former Republican gubernatorial contenders David Perdue of Georgia and Doug Mastriano of Pennsylvania.

Former President Trump announced Saturday he would be arrested on Tuesday, as TheBlaze reported. In his post on Truth Social about the potential arrest, he also urged citizens to protest.

At the same time Christie ripped into Trump, he also defended some of Trump’s contentions regarding allegedly biased treatment by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“You can look at Alvin Bragg as the Manhattan DA, see that he’s a partisan, see that he, in lots of people opinions, including people living in Manhattan, has failed at his job regarding violent crime,” Christie said.

“But you can also think that Donald Trump is not someone who could be a winning presidential candidate for the Republican party.”

“When he says things about Bragg that are partisan and negative, he’s not wrong,” Christie added. It was unclear whether Christie was referring to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif), to Trump, or to both.

“It is a danger zone to go into Manhattan because Alvin Bragg is running a revolving door and not prosecuting crime, not prosecuting violent criminals, and if he does, he lets them out within four hours of when they’re arrested to commit more crimes.”

“Chris Christie could be the strongest GOP alternative for POTUS; savvy, swagger, moderation, toughness,” Geraldo Rivera tweeted Sunday afternoon, following Christie’s statements on ABC.

Responses to Rivera’s tweet were swift and merciless. They ranged from memes mocking Christie’s struggles with weight to speculation that the former New Jersey governor may have overindulged in adult beverages or other substances.

Christie told the Washington Examiner on March 15 that he will decide whether to jump into the 2024 race for president in the “next 45 to 60 days.”
