The New York Times, CNN, USA Today, and other liberal media outlets have elicited scorn and outrage after they took measures to ensure that they were on the record as not “misgendering” the transsexual who slaughtered children inside a Nashville Christian elementary school on Monday.
The record
A female transsexual murdered three children ages 8 and 9 and three adults at the Covenant School: children Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney and adults Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60; and Mike Hill, 61.
Metropolitan Nashville Police officers Rex Englebert and Michael Collazo were fortunately able to kill the shooter before she could continue her rampage and claim the lives of additional innocents.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, there were mixed reports and a great deal of speculation about the identity and sex of the shooter.
Accordingly, the liberal media, including CNN, the New York Times, and other outfits, reported that the “shooter was a female.”
However, they soon discovered that the female child-killer used “he/him” pronouns on her LinkedIn page and wrote her preferred male name on the stock of the rifle she used in the shooting.
Correcting the record
The New York Times issued an update several hours after the rampage, effectively apologizing for having dared to identify the school shooter by her biological sex.
“There was confusion later on Monday about the gender identity of the assailant in the Nashville shooting,” the Times tweeted. “Officials had used ‘she’ and ‘her’ to refer to the suspect, who, according to a social media post and a LinkedIn profile, appeared to identify as a man in recent months.”
This update served as an addendum to an article concerning the rarity of female mass shooters.
The Times’ eagerness to accommodate the mass shooter was not well received online.
BlazeTV host Lauren Chen wrote, “Who gives a damn? She was a piece of sh** murderer, her mental illness drove her to kill children, why the hell are you indulging it?”
Brittany Hughes of the Media Research Center tweeted, “I mean sure she murdered some children, but the real tragedy here is that no one respected her imaginary penis.”
Culture critic Ian Miles Cheong wrote, “Incredible. The New York Times apologizes for misgendering the Nashville mass shooter who murdered three kids and three adults because it disrespects the murderer’s memory and identity. Truly a cult. Woke mind virus in full swing.”
Podcaster Noam Blum noted, “One of the weirdest subgenres to emerge from the current Online Discourse is ‘trying to apologize for misgendering a horrific criminal without making it sound like you’re apologizing.'”
CNN similarly worked ardently to do right by the child-killer.
As of 4:31 p.m. on Monday, CNN had a report on its site entitled, “28-year-old woman kills 3 students and 3 adults at private Christian school in Nashville, police say,” which has been archived.
The original article refers to the child-killer as a “woman” three times.
Mythinformed highlighted how CNN has since stealth-edited that article and changed its title to, “Nashville private school shooting suspect had maps of building and scouted possible second attack location, police say.”
In its article, updated well in advance of the so-called “Trans Day of Vengeance,” CNN noted, “Police have referred to [the shooter] as the ‘female shooter’ and at an evening press conference added that [the shooter] was transgender. When asked for clarification, a spokesperson told CNN [the shooter] used ‘male pronouns’ on a social media profile.”
The Daily Beast, another leftist publication, originally reported that a “Rifle-Toting Woman Kills 6 in Nashville Christian School.”
The article is now titled “Cops Release Shocking CCTV of Nashville School Massacre.”
Upon learning that the child-killer was a transsexual, the Daily Beast appears to have scrubbed any mention of her sex from its reporting, but for a mention that “police initially described the suspect as a teen, and then a 28-year-old woman, and later said [the suspect] was transgender.”
USA Today went so far as to accuse the police force responsible for stopping the school shooter of misgendering her:
Townhall investigative reporter Mia Cathell responded, writing, “We do not care about ‘misgendering’ a school shooter that murdered children. Only the mainstream media would worry about preferred pronouns at a time like this.”
Curtis Houck, managing editor of News Busters, tweeted, “Someone seems to be more concerned about properly gendering the monster who did this than focusing on the children murdered for simply loving Jesus.”
