A new poll found that a key narrative of the transgender agenda has been losing ground among Americans over the last three years.
The poll from Public Religion Research Institute asked respondents whether they believed only two genders existed, a fact that has been challenged by transgender and other LGBTQ activists.
The poll found that more Americans agreed with the statement each year over the last three years. In 2021, 59% of Americans agreed, in 2022, 62% of Americans agreed, and 65% agreed in the current year of the poll.
The poll found that answers to the question broke down along partisan lines. Republicans agreeing with the statement increased from 87% in 2021 to 90% in 2023. Democrats agreeing with the statement grew from 38% in 2021 to 44% in 2023. Independents agreeing with the statement grew from 60% in 2021 to 66% in 2023.
The poll found that younger respondents were overall less likely to agree with the statement, but they also changed their opinion in favor of the statement far more than the other demographics.
Only 43% of Americans in Gen Z agreed with the statement in 2021, but 57% agreed in 2023. Among Millennials, only 51% agreed with the statement in 2021, which grew to 60% in 2023.
The poll findings indicate that the transgender agenda trying to undermine a binary understanding of gender is losing ground among Americans.
Some on the left accuse conservatives of exaggerating the threat of the LGBTQ political agenda in order to rile up the passions of their supporters. Conservatives counter that their activism is a reaction to an aggressive LGBTQ political campaign aimed at passing left-wing legislation and coercing corporations and popular culture into pushing their agenda.
A separate poll from Scripps News in May found that 44% of Americans support laws that restrict “transgender care” for children, while only 34% said they oppose those laws. Another 12% said they neither support nor oppose those laws.
