Chicago prosecutors allege that a mother ordered her 14-year-old son to shoot and kill a man who had punched her after an altercation at a hot dog stand.
The harrowing incident unfolded on Sunday after 11 p.m. when Carlisha Hood got into a heated argument with a 32-year-old man after she went into the Maxwell Street Express to order food.
Hood’s son was waiting in the car outside, but he came into the restaurant after his mother texted him and beckoned to him.
Surveillance video shows the son standing at the entrance of the restaurant before pulling out a gun and shooting the man in the back, according to prosecutors, after he had punched Hood several times.
The man tried to run away, but the mother allegedly told her son to fire more shots at the man. He suffered two gunshots to the back and died at the scene.
Court documents said that Hood then directed the son to shoot a witness who had laughed at the incident, but the son refused, and they fought over the gun before getting into their car and speeding away.
Video clips from surveillance cameras were obtained by WGN-TV.
Both the mother and the son turned themselves in to the police on Wednesday.
Hood was arrested and charged with one felony count of murder and another count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while the son was charged with a felony count of murder.
Neither Hood nor the son had any criminal history prior to Sunday’s incident. Police also said that Hood was a licensed firearm holder and had a concealed carry license.
