In a stunning courtroom twist, Nick Reiner’s murder trial was delayed after officials revealed autopsy reports were outstanding.
Nick Reiner appeared for a hearing Wednesday to face double murder charges in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, but prosecutors said the autopsy reports remain pending four and a half months after they were killed, according to TMZ. Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Chung said prosecutors still needed to turn over almost two terabytes worth of discovery to the defense and acknowledged the incomplete autopsy reports, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Nick’s public defender said the defense was still waiting for discovery, and the judge scheduled a new hearing for the case on Sept. 15, according to TMZ.

Nick remains behind bars at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He is being held without bail.
Rob and Michele were found murdered Dec. 14 inside their Los Angeles, California residence.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was homicide, and reported that Rob and Michele died due to “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to TMZ. The pending autopsy results are expected to reveal more details that are critical to the murder trial.
Nick appeared thin in his jail jumpsuit, and only briefly addressed the judge to acknowledge the new information about the delay, according to TMZ.

Nick pleaded not guilty on two counts of first-degree murder in February. The charges against him feature a special circumstances accusation which could result in him facing the death penalty if found guilty.
He was initially represented by high-powered attorney Alan Jackson, who withdrew from the case in January.
Public defender Kimberly Greene has since taken carriage of his case.
