“Revenge of the Nerds” actor Donald Gibb died Tuesday evening at the age of 71, according to his son.
The star, best known for his role as the lovable Frederick Aloysius “Ogre” Palowaski in the 1984 movie, died because of health complications, his son Travis told TMZ. Travis said the famous actor died surrounded by his family in his home in Texas and noted that his passing was not sudden. Gibb reprised his role in the sequels “Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise ” in 1987 and again in 1994 for “Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love.”

Gibb left a mark in the world of entertainment with appearances in both film and television. His towering presence and quick quips in “Revenge of the Nerds” made him an instant fan-favorite.
His many other credits include appearances in “Bloodsport,” “U.S. Marshals” and “Hancock.” The actor was often cast as the “tough guy,” and used his stature to his advantage on camera, according to TMZ. Those who knew him saw past the tough exterior and described a man who was good-hearted and down-to-earth off-screen.

The family requested prayers and privacy during their time of healing, and told TMZ that Gibb will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
