This may be … *checks list of what words I can say* … the most ignorant sports take of all-time. (And that’s being nice)
Sports media blowhard Emmanuel Acho recently made the argument that the WNBA would somehow be “better off” without Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark. And what makes that even crazier is that he’s saying this despite over and over again stating that Clark is why the league is seeing incredible success such as record-breaking television ratings and ticket sales.
Acho, who used to play in the National Football League, expressed his stupidity while speaking on his “Speakeasy” podcast about the talk going on around how Clark gets treated by other players. The most recent example was her exchange with Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas. “The W, at this junction in time, would be better off without Caitlin Clark because she is a bigger distraction than she is an additive,” said Acho. “Caitlin Clark has gotten the WNBA over the necessary threshold they needed. Now, people are watching. Now, we realize there’s talent in the W that’s actually even greater than Caitlin Clark.
“Caitlin got the necessary eyes there, but now that the eyes are there, we don’t necessarily need her anymore.”
And it gets worse.
“Caitlin Clark has gotten the WNBA players past the proverbial Red Sea. Chartered planes, new CBA, new max contracts. With all due respect, if Caitlin disappeared from the W, she wouldn’t be missed.”

Emmanuel Acho could leave sports media tomorrow and nobody would care … like, what are we even talking about here?
