Imagine being a 22-year-old millionaire who just hit a homer in six straight games … pretty cool, right? … Junior Caminero is living it.
The third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays is now the youngest Major Leaguer since at least 1900 to pop out home runs in six consecutive games.
In Wednesday night’s 4-0 victory against the Kansas City Royals, while facing off against starting pitcher Seth Lugo in the first inning, Caminero clobbered a homer that registered at 425 feet. It was his 24th home run of the campaign, and just days before his 23rd birthday, which is Sunday. Prior to Caminero, Seattle Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr. was the youngest player to hit a home run in six consecutive contests, pulling off the feat in 1993 at 23 years old.
Caminero is now two games away from a tie for the MLB record of eight straight contests with a home run, which was set in 1956 by Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Dale Long.

I know Junior is in Tampa, but holy hell, what a time for Florida sports, particularly when you’re talking about my boys in Miami.
My Heat landed Giannis Antetokounmpo, and in my journalistic opinion, we’re about to get LeBron James. The Florida Panthers just brought in Brady Tkachuk and are quietly building another championship roster. The Miami Marlins are in the hunt for a NL Wild Card spot. Lionel Messi is still doing his thing at Inter Miami. And the Miami Hurricanes football program is lining up for a national championship season. The only damn team failing the mission is the Miami Dolphins, because of course they are.
And now Tampa is trying to join the party? … Florida: the king of sports.
