In case you missed it, the House passed a bill that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
That means no changing the clocks twice a year, which sounds great in theory until you look at the actual math. During the winter, the sun wouldn’t rise until well after 8 a.m. across much of the US, and in some places it could be closer to 9 a.m.!

This map showing the latest possible winter sunrises across the US is going viral and is a huge (literal) wakeup call for everyone!

NYC wouldn’t see the sun until nearly 8:30…

Bismarck, North Dakota would be plunged in darkness until almost 9:30.

And Seattle wouldn’t get a sunrise until basically 9.

Needless to say, once people actually did the math on what their mornings would look like, the panic set in:

Some people are completely rejecting the idea of waking up in pitch-black midnight conditions.

People are asking, “Who actually wants this?”

You have people pointing out how hard getting out of bed in the dead of winter is already.

Even politicians who had to vote on the bill are already dreading the angry constituent emails they’re about to get. Lawmaker Eric Sorensen said, “NGL, this is gonna suck so bad. I voted against it because I can hear the complaints already.”

Other people are wondering why they’re messing with this to begin with: “I thought it was just something people wanted to complain about all the time, not actually change.”

Then there’s the absolute nightmare scenario for high schoolers who already have to wake up ridiculously early.

And parents are like “no, ma’am,” this is terrible for kids!

Sooo, let’s see what happens. The bill goes to the Senate next!
