The Republican theory of the midterm election is that even though Americans are showing historic levels of anger at Republicans and the current president, the midterm election is going to be a low-turnout base election that will keep Republicans in control of the House and Senate.

The belief that the midterm will be a low-turnout election is the only justification for a strategy that involves sending Donald Trump out to campaign and House Republicans cozying up to Trump.

Election results since 2025 show voters turning against Republicans in historic ways. Republicans are losing elections in some of the most conservative areas of the country where they have not lost in decades.

The writing is on the wall that the 2026 midterm election could be a blowout loss for Republicans. Donald Trump seems oblivious to what is going on in the country and the anger of voters.

Trump continues to tell voters that the economy is great and that there is no affordability crisis, while he starts a new trade war with Canada and his approval ratings reach new lows.

Republicans are deep into the denial of reality, which would explain why Speaker Mike Johnson is running around the country calling himself Trump’s co-president.
