Russia unleashed another night of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine on September 3rd, damaging critical infrastructure, a major American-owned beverage plant, and residential buildings from Kyiv to Odesa, while wounding dozens of civilians in a barrage that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said caused destruction in thirteen oblasts (states/provinces) in a single night.
Kyiv city and the surrounding region endured relentless jet-powered Geran/Shahed-type drone attacks overnight and into the daytime hours, as explosions and air defense fire rang out across multiple districts. In the Boryspil district of Kyiv Oblast, Russian strikes damaged warehouse facilities, a store, and an administrative building, leaving one man hospitalized with shrapnel wounds, according to Kyiv Oblast Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko.
Separately, a Russian drone struck a Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine production facility in the village of Velyka Dymerka in the Brovary district of Kyiv Oblast, sparking a large fire. Zelenskyy confirmed the strike, calling it a clear message to the United States given the plant’s American ownership. Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine confirmed in a statement that all employees at the facility are safe and no injuries occurred there.
In Chernihiv Oblast, Russian forces shelled the region 16 times, with 29 explosions recorded across five communities, regional administration head Vyacheslav Chaus reported. A Geran-type drone struck a residential property in the Horodnia community, causing a fire that damaged an outbuilding. No injuries were reported.
Khmelnytskyi Oblast was struck twice overnight by Geran/Shahed-type drones, which damaged a warehouse and set a truck ablaze. The driver suffered shrapnel wounds to his back and shoulder and was hospitalized.
Jet-powered drones also targeted Ternopil Oblast overnight. Air defense forces intercepted the drones at about 6:26 a.m. A grass fire of undetermined origin was reported, but there were no casualties.
On the eastern front, Russian forces renewed shelling in the Kramatorsk and Sloviansk districts of Donetsk Oblast. In Kramatorsk, an FPV drone struck a private business, sparking a fire. In Sloviansk, an aerial guided bomb damaged four apartment buildings and two private houses and injured a child. Firefighters were forced to suspend their work because of the threat of another strike.
In Kharkiv Oblast, a Russian missile struck the village of Pechenihy in the Chuhuiv district, setting a house and farm building ablaze. Regional administration head Oleh Syniehubov reported 10 civilian casualties, including two children. Local officials confirmed that no one was killed and that the victims suffered shrapnel wounds or acute stress reactions.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian forces struck a Nova Poshta logistics depot in Dnipro with a “Banderol” loitering munition, destroying the depot and a branch office. The company confirmed that one employee was killed and five others suffered shrapnel wounds.
On the southern front, Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov said Zelenskyy had offered him the position of head of Ukraine’s Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development, although no official decision has been made.
In Kherson Oblast, Russian forces struck critical infrastructure and residential areas across dozens of settlements, damaging three apartment buildings, six private houses, an administrative building, a humanitarian aid distribution point, agricultural machinery, and private vehicles. Regional administration head Oleksandr Prokudin reported that 16 people were injured and one was killed.
Separately, Kherson prosecutors announced that Valeriy Saltykov, a member of the Kherson Regional Council, will stand trial on charges of aiding and abetting economic activity in collaboration with the Russian Federation.
In Odesa, an overnight Russian strike damaged a high-rise residential building from the 10th through the 17th floors, according to city military administration head Serhii Lysak. Seventeen people were injured, including three children. No fatalities were reported.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported approximately 1,320 Russian personnel losses as of September 3. Ukrainian losses for the day were not disclosed.
Ukrainian drones struck a Russian Kasta-2E2 radar station in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a system valued at more than $60 million. Meanwhile, Germany is preparing to deliver thousands of attack drones and interceptor missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine this month.
On the diplomatic front, Berlin is deepening cooperation between German and Ukrainian intelligence services, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s team reportedly weighing further assistance in identifying strike coordinates for Ukrainian counterattacks on Russian territory. Zelenskyy said the overnight barrage caused damage across thirteen oblasts, stating that Russia has “found a new way to escalate” and shows no sign of slowing down.
Separately, a disinformation campaign is reportedly underway aimed at discrediting Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) and its combat units, following a violent confrontation between Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and HUR personnel in Kyiv on September 2nd tied to an alleged Russian intelligence plot.
