Mexican authorities arrested two men in connection to the killing of Jonathan Meléndez, 38, keyboardist for popular indie rock group Camilo Séptimo after he was found dead on Tuesday alongside his family at their home near Mexico City.
According to Billboard, citing the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office’s press release on Tuesday, police in Atizapán de Zaragoza found Meléndez, his pregnant wife Ana Paula, 35, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family’s housekeeper killed inside their apartment.
Officials noted their dog was also tied up and killed.
Lorena Victorio Cabrera confirmed to CNN her 21-year-old niece, Aleida Romero Victorio, was the family’s housekeeper. She told the outlet her niece “was a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her.”
According to the outlet, prosecutors believe the killing occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Three of the victims, including the 3-year-old, were shot in the head. The fourth victim was shot in the back.
Authorities also found a 6-year-old child alive and unharmed inside the family’s apartment.
Meléndez’s band posted a heartfelt tribute honoring their keyboardist.
Diego Sebastián “N,” an associate of Meléndez, was arrested and alleged to be the main perpetrator, according to the prosecutor’s office. He was taken into custody alongside another man identified as Gerardo “N” in connection with the family’s death.
According to CNN, officials say one of the suspects had “exploited” his relationship with a victim to gain entry to the home.
