Woke Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez addressed more than 1,000 people Sunday at the “Students vs. Billionaires” town hall in downtown Ithaca, an event aimed largely at Cornell University and Ithaca College students but held off Cornell’s campus at the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center. The New York Democrat Socialist pushed commie talking points that creating tuition-free public colleges and universities would provide an affordable alternative and help restrain rising costs at private institutions.
“The best thing that we can do to rein in runaway cost at private institutions” is to establish tuition-free public higher education, Ocasio-Cortez said in a video shared by event organizer More Perfect University on X. Rejecting the proposal’s characterization as unrealistic, she declared, “This is literally what baby boomers gave themselves,” and said public colleges were tuition-free during the 1960s and 1970s.
Ocasio-Cortez also renewed her call to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement, portraying ICE as an unaccountable force rather than a conventional law-enforcement agency. “ICE is Palantir, ICE is AI, ICE is facial recognition, ICE is surveillance,” she warned, adding that the agency was “coming after you, regardless of your status.”
She attempted to claim that she was not opposing all enforcement, arguing that suspected crimes should instead proceed through the established justice system with court hearings and due-process protections while painting the deportation operations in negative light.
She urged her DSA supporters to build political power locally, arguing that “Washington, by and large, is bought and paid for” and that change begins when communities organize and hold municipal and state officials accountable. Addressing campus commie activism and alleged efforts to suppress protesters, Ocasio-Cortez said, “When we come out in numbers, they cannot take us all.”
The appearance came amid growing speculation that Ocasio-Cortez could seek the presidency or challenge Sen. Chuck Schumer for his New York Senate seat in 2028, possibilities she has said are both under consideration.
