Critics hit back at President Donald Trump on Monday after he made one of his most easily debunked claims yet.
“Our country is doing so well under Republican leadership that only I can make this promise to you,” Trump said, and repeated his vow to send out $5,000 checks if Republicans win the midterm elections.
Trump has promised Americans tariff rebates and other forms of cash payments multiple times and, in most cases, never delivered.
But what he said next was an even bigger whopper.
“This is a big promise,” he said. “But I’ve met it so many, I’ve met all my promises. All my promises.”
Far from meeting all his promises, the president has actually failed to deliver on most key issues on his platform, from inflation to foreign relations.
He promised to cut grocery prices and end the war in Ukraine on his very first day in office, but inflation remains stubbornly high, and the war continues to rage. He’s also promised to release the files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once his friend, but hasn’t fully complied. He promised no new wars, then launched one against Iran that’s quickly turned into a quagmire.
From getting Mexico to pay for his border wall to bringing gas prices to below $2.00 a gallon, the president has made a lot of promises ― and delivered on very few, as critics on X were quick to remind him:
