George Takei was crushed on social media after offering a defense for Pride parade marchers who exposed themselves while children were present.
The incident was documented by video and photographs that showed nude LGBTQ activists riding bicycles during a parade in Seattle, Washington. In some photographs, children can be seen among the spectators.
Critics on the right used the example to lambast the LGBTQ agenda, but some on the left reflexively defended the inappropriate behavior in order to show support for the LGBTQ movement.
Among those was the openly gay “Star Trek” star, who tweeted a defense for the nude bicyclists.
“Even if there were no naked guys on bikes this year, they would find picture or generate them and push the same agenda anyway. There’s no ‘fixing’ this by calling for self-censoring,” Takei tweeted on Sunday.
The tweet was hit with the dreaded ratio, with only 1,456 “likes” but more than twice as many comments to the tweet. It was also bombarded by replies lambasting Takei.
“Ask yourself a simple question Mr. Takei How far are you willing to take this,” responded Jordan Peterson.
“One of the great tweets of all time,” replied Ben Shapiro, who paraphrased the tweet as the following: “Yes, sure, gay dudes naked on bikes in front of children is happening. But if it weren’t, the Right would just AI it into existence. So we shouldn’t stop doing it.”
“Can you just call a spade a spade and point out that being naked around children is not okay, or is that too much to ask?” read one popular response.
“Ya know, you could just not wag your genitals at children for its own sake. Wild idea, I know,” read another response.
“Free speech is great because it gets people like Takei to show us who they really are. Don’t self-censor, George. You’re doing great,” tweeted another detractor.
This is not the first time that the internet has used Takei’s liberal statements to undermine the far-left agenda. In 2022, Takei was similarly pilloried and mocked over a statement about AR-15s and Ukraine that accidentally supported the conservative argument for Second Amendment rights.
