Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was mercilessly mocked on Thursday after boasting about her commitment to the truth at the GOP’s midterm convention.
Leavitt left the role, which largely involved defending and repeating Donald Trump’s falsehoods, last month. However, she kicked off her speech at the event in Dallas with an attack on the media.
“It feels good to be back behind a podium,” she said, claiming “it feels much better speaking to a stadium full of patriots than a briefing room full of journalists.”
Leavitt then went after Democrats, claiming Americans “cannot be a wealthy people if we elect extreme, liberal, socialist Democrats who will raise our rent and taxes, take away our private property and kill the American dream.”
Then came the line that caught critics’ attention.
“Here’s another harsh truth for you,” she said. “I like to speak the truth.”
