Maryland police say that a man was pushed onto the train tracks at a subway station in downtown Baltimore and was electrocuted to death.

Police said they found a 28-year-old man on the tracks on Wednesday just before 6 p.m. at the Shot Tower metro stop, near Port Discovery. Baltimore city medics tried to revive the victim, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators said that the victim had been standing near the edge of the platform when another man pushed him from behind onto the tracks.

The unidentified suspect fled from the scene.

Police later identified the victim as Christopher Foster of Cockeysville. They are seeking to identify and find the suspect who pushed Foster.

Investigators have not determined whether it was a random attack or if the assailant was known to the victim.

Regular commuters on the metro were shocked when told about the incident.

“I just hate that man lost his life like that,” said Robert Thomas to WJZ-TV. “Somebody pushed him, that’s evil, that’s totally evil.”

The Shot Tower metro station is across the street from the Baltimore Police Headquarters.

Despite the horrific incident, a recent police report said that violent crimes in Baltimore have dropped by 16% since 2018. Other crimes have dropped during the four-year span as well, including property crime by 26%.

The report also indicated that there was a 24% drop in shootings in the first quarter of 2023, as well as a 21% drop in homicides during the same time. Gun arrests, on the other hand, have increased by 33% since 2019.
