Your partner deserves to feel loved and cared for, especially this Valentine’s Day. While a box of chocolates and some roses are always appreciated, it pays to go above and beyond. Here are expert tips and creative ideas to elevate your gift-giving game.

1. Perfume: Create A Custom Scent

A custom perfume is a unique Valentine’s Day gift for your significant other who already has everything. It’s a bespoke blend tailored to their style, showing that you’ve put thought and effort into their gift. Before visiting a fragrance shop, know your partner’s preferences and dislikes. Some scents can trigger migraine and allergic reactions in some people.

According to Walter Johnsen, vice president of product development and perfumer for GUESS, perfumes are an extension of a person’s personality, so it’s important to know what they like.

“You have to keep in mind that people use fragrance to express their personality and feel confident in their skin and that the connection that links a person to a scent is entirely subjective. And remember that you’re buying perfume for someone else, not for yourself — just because you like something doesn’t mean they will as well,” he says.

2. Spa Day: Organize An At-Home Spa Treatment

Life can be hectic, and sometimes all you and your partner need is to unwind and rejuvenate. While a luxurious spa sounds amazing, you can make it more intimate by setting it at home. Prep a spa gift basket, personalized robe and bath bombs, and hire massage professionals as you unwind together.

According to Jade Shutes, director of education for The School for Aromatic Studies, infusing essential oils can help relieve stress, anxiety, tension and pain. Gather your favorite oil diffusers and candles, and set up fairy lights for a cozy ambience. You can also add soothing background music for a more restful session.

3. Dinner For Two: Cook At Home

Skip the stress of making a dinner reservation this Valentine’s Day. Whether you hate crowded restaurants or want to show off your cooking skills, a romantic dinner at home is always a good idea. Create your partner’s favorite dish or recreate a meal from a special memory.

You don’t have to be a chef to impress your partner. You can start with a classic dish, like fresh pasta. Chef Michael Tusk, owner of Quince Restaurant, says you only need simple ingredients to create various dishes.

“You only need flour and eggs, and you can go in so many different directions, whether it’s for a filled pasta, a ribbon or another shape, baked, with butter or another sauce, from this region or that. It’s an everyday staple, but there’s the alphabet of pasta dishes to learn,” he shares.

4. Flowers: Put Them In The Fridge To Extend Freshness

A simple bouquet is a powerful gesture of love and thoughtfulness. However, flowers have a short lifespan. As much as you want them to stay fresh for long, they require proper care. Fortunately, you can ensure your loved one will enjoy fresh flowers for a longer time.

Experts say that refrigerating flowers can help prevent mold and mildew growth from excess moisture, keeping them fresh. This is especially helpful if your partner won’t be home for a few hours and you want to preserve the color and shape of your blooms.

5. Chocolates: Pair Them With Wine

When searching for the best chocolates to give your loved ones, consider buying a wine that pairs well with them. It’s a step up from just a box of chocolates, showing your willingness to go the extra mile. Sommelier Renee Sferrazza shared that spicy and sweet chocolates pair well with sweet wines. Options with low tannins, like pinot noir, and high fruit notes also make a great match.

6. Jewelry: Personalize It

Your partner deserves to feel special, and customized jewelry can help convey that feeling. Give a delicate necklace featuring their birth month flowers, a classic nameplate bracelet or a ring featuring their birthstone. According to researchers from the University of Bath, personalized gifts promote lasting emotional connections and encourage sustainability, as recipients are more likely to care for them.

Give The Gift Of Love

With a bit of creativity and expert guidance, you can transform a simple gift into an unforgettable expression of your love. So, start shopping for your gifts and make this Valentine’s Day a memorable occasion.
