While training in Colorado for the upcoming world championships in Scotland, 17-year-old American cyclist Magnus White tragically died after being hit by a vehicle near his home over the weekend.
USA Cycling confirmed White’s death on Sunday.
“He was a rising star in the off-road cycling scene and his passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community,” said the organization in a statement.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the White family, his teammates, friends, and the Boulder community during this incredibly difficult time.”
White was struck by a vehicle while training in Boulder, Colorado. He later died.
The 17-year-old was considered a rising multidisciplinary star in cycling. In 2021, he won the cyclocross junior national championship in 2021 and earned a spot on the United States national team. Before 2022’s cyclocross world championships, White was a member of Team USA competing in Europe.

He was selected to represent the United States again in the 2023 cyclocross world championships in the Netherlands.
This year, White began competing in mountain biking and road cycling. When the incident took place, he was on one of his last training rides prior to the junior world mountain bike championships in Scotland.
