The most decorated tennis duo of all time is teaming up again after nearly four years. Serena and Venus Williams received a wild-card spot to compete together June 16 at Wimbledon.
Serena, 44, announced her comeback June 1. She recently competed with rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko at the HSBC Championships and she won their first match together in straight sets. The pairing was forced to withdraw after Mboko suffered a knee injury. Williams’ return sparked enthusiasm in the tennis community, with HSBC Championships match she participated in selling out. Williams initially rejected the possibility of a return, posting, “Omg y’all, I’m NOT coming back,” in late 2025. But, six months later, she changed her tune, citing boredom as the reason for her return. Per ESPN, she said: “I don’t know. I had nothing better to do. I got tired of sitting at home. My kids are out of school for the summer, so why not?”

Venus Williams is 0–7 in singles matches and 1–5 in doubles in the 2026 season.
Venus and Serena Williams have won a combined 30 Grand Slam titles, nine Olympic medals, and, as a team, 14 major doubles titles. The sisters will enter Wimbledon as massive underdogs, but recent years have shown that older athletes can still have success at the highest levels. LeBron James is still playing at 41, and Tom Brady retired at 45. The Williams sisters enter that conversation with a combined age of 90.
