The Mets clearly didn’t get any of the Knicks’ magic.
It didn’t take long for Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays to turn into complete chaos for the New York Mets, and this because of a routine play, something that was supposed to be a normal base hit, turning into a home run straight out of Little League.
And the man to blame: Juan Soto and his $765 million contract.
Beginning.a road trip Monday night against the Blue Jays, New York was hoping to use the new energy for some positive play only days following its manager Carlos Mendoza getting fired. Instead, things quickly flipped into complete crap, ultimately giving the Mets a 2-1 defeat. Stepping into the batter’s box for the Blue Jays was designated hitter George Springer, doing so in a square off against New York pitcher Sean Manaea. Facing a 2-2 count, Springer knocked a ball out to left field, and at first glance, it should’ve just been a routine single.
However, the ball ended up going right under Soto’s glove, and it was worse than that, because when he was chasing it down, his teammate and center fielder A.J. Ewing attempted to scoop it up. And all he did was accidentally sling the ball, making the situation even more chaotic.
