The Tate Brothers are longtime Trump supporters who are facing 59 charges related to rape and sex trafficking. Reportedly, Trump and members of his administration have helped the brothers evade the charges.
Reps. Jamie Raskin and Rep. Yassamin Ansari want answers from Trump’s DOJ.
The Representatives wrote to Attorney General Todd Blanche and Secretary of State Marco Rubio:
As you may know, Andrew and Tristan Tate, who have long expressed support for President Donald Trump, currently face serious charges related to human trafficking, including trafficking minors, rape, and money laundering, in both Romania and the United Kingdom (U.K.).1 More than a year ago, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin sent a letter to Secretary Marco Rubio, then-Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Special Presidential Envoy Richard Grenell, requesting documents and information regarding the Trump Administration’s reported efforts to pressure Romanian authorities to lift court-imposed travel restrictions on the brothers.
Rather than send a written response as requested, Mr. Grenell called House Judiciary Committee Minority staff to complain about the letter, which spotlighted the fact that he reportedly raised the Tate brothers’ case with Romanian officials during the Munich Security Conference.
After that letter was sent, additional reporting has revealed additional ties between the Tate brothers and the Trump Administration. When the Tates returned to the United States in February 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials seized their electronic devices.3 An investigation by ProPublica revealed that a White House official, Paul Ingrassia, intervened on the brothers’ behalf, telling senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to return the devices. Mr. Ingrassia previously represented the Tates as a member of their legal team before joining the Administration in numerous roles, including White House liaison to DHS, but he denies that he intervened in this particular instance.
