Wyndham Clark turned a hostile Canadian gallery into the stage for one of the gutsiest moments of his season.
The American pulled on a Jack Hughes Team USA hockey jersey Saturday during the third round of the RBC Canadian Open, then pointed to the nameplate as fans jeered him at the 14th hole, according to Fox News. The 32-year-old Denver native peeled off the sweater for his tee shot on the 134-yard par-3, stuck it to four feet, then slipped the jersey back on and rolled in the birdie putt.
The taunt carried weight because of recent hockey history. Team USA beat Canada in overtime to win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with Hughes starring for the Americans, according to NHL.com. Clark said the stunt was a tribute rather than an insult.

“I was doing it to more celebrate USA’s win, it had nothing against Canada, but I just thought in hockey country it would be kind of fun,” Clark told Golf Channel.
He also admitted the putt rattled him. “They were booing me all the way up even right before I putted,” Clark told Golf Channel. “If I miss that then it looks really bad. So, I’m glad I birdied it. I think some guys came up and said, ‘You got stones, you know, that was pretty impressive.’ It was all fun and games.”
The bravado matched his form. Clark birdied 14, 15 and 18 to climb to 11-under and sat in second place heading into Sunday, according to Fox News. The 2023 U.S. Open winner arrived in Toronto fresh off a victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May.
