CNN host Anderson Cooper on Wednesday delivered a damning fact check on the litany of claims President Donald Trump has been making ahead of the midterms, noting the MAGA leader is telling voters not to believe what “they see with their eyes.”
The “AC360” host began by noting the latest Consumer Price Index shows inflation surged higher than expected in September and worsened to 3.7% compared with a year ago before playing clips of Trump claiming otherwise at recent rallies.
“All your prices have been tumbling down,” Trump told voters in the montage.
He also claimed, “Prices are coming down very fast. … Oil is coming down. Inflation’s down. … We’re bringing prices way down, but every time I go out the fake news goes, ‘Affordability,’ meaning like I’m causing high — no, I’m bringing the high prices down that they caused.”
Cooper slammed Trump’s hypocrisy.
“The words of a man who says he wants voters to pretend that he is on the ballot, telling them things they see with their eyes are not true,” he said. “Inflation not down, it’s up. Prices not coming down, they’re going up. Oil not coming down, it was $106 a barrel today.”
Cooper continued, “None of what you heard him say there was true.”
Trump has urged voters to “pretend” he’s on the ballot in the upcoming midterms, which the president has decided to make all about himself despite disastrous approval ratings amid a nationwide affordability crisis exacerbated by his unpopular war on Iran.
Cooper went on to show another clip of Trump claiming Wednesday at a rally in Arizona, “We’re in the golden age, and despite all of the obstruction from radical left lunatics, our nation is doing better now than it has ever done before” — and fact-checked him yet again.
“Voters, according to polling, at least, do not seem to see it that way,” said Cooper, citing a “Poll of Polls.” “Just 33% of them in recent CNN polling believe he’s doing a good job.”
He noted even Republican voters say Trump “is not doing enough to address their problems.”
Cooper concluded with another clip of Trump telling voters about his “beautiful” new White House helipad, ballroom and triumphal arch projects, noting this was “probably not in the teleprompter” for good reason, before pivoting to Trump’s latest horrifying antic.
He said, “Late yesterday, after first posting a video of a British man being mauled to death by a tiger, he then posted this AI version in which he wrestles and then tames a tiger. It’s causing an uproar in the U.K. Here, it kind of barely registers; voters say they have bigger things to worry about.”
