The frontman for the rock band Beartooth came out as gay on May 23, despite having been married to a woman for 14 years.
Caleb Shomo, the band’s lead singer, wrote in a post on Instagram that he felt “embarrassed” he avoided the truth for so long and “spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol.”
“There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further,” Shomo wrote. “I am a proudly gay man. This is something I’ve been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now.” (RELATED: ‘I Do Love Gays’: Democrat Senate Candidate Butchers Left’s Favorite Acronym In Bid To Seem Inclusive)
The rockstar’s wife, Fleur Shomo, responded to her husband’s revelation in her own post on Instagram, according to USA Today. “The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate,” she reportedly posted. “For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world.”
Her Instagram page has been set to private.

Prior to joining Beartooth, Shomo was a member of the Westerville, Ohio metalcore band Attack Attack!, playing keyboard and synth before taking over as the group’s lead vocalist in 2009.
In his social media post this past Saturday, the rock singer thanked “those who have shown me love” and urged “anyone who’s struggling with who they are to give yourself grace.”
Meanwhile, Fluer Shomo noted that her husband’s decision to come out as gay hasn’t been easy, according to USA Today. She reportedly stated in her Instagram post that “to support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out,” and “you can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished & lose yourself at the same time.”
Fluer Shomo concluded, “our nearly 14yrs of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love” while stating that she already misses her husband but encourages his fanbase to still be supportive of him, according to the outlet.
