Parents sick of the mind-numbing, toxic content kids are consuming these days will be thrilled to learn that a wave of nostalgia is on the way.

9 Story Media Group is bringing back “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” making the hit classic available to a whole new generation of kids. The oversized dog we’ve known and loved is making a comeback in a new PBS Kids animated series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 26-episode series is slated to premiere on PBS Kids in 2027, and there couldn’t be a better time to introduce wholesome content to the young generation.

The upcoming program will run as 11-minute episodes designed to teach “important foundational social skills” to preschoolers. The show will introduce problem-solving concepts and will aim to guide children on how to make friends, engage in play, and contribute to their communities.

In a landscape filled with toxic messaging, questionable content, and online risks, the return of Clifford the Big Red Dog offers a much-needed positive influence and a welcome treat for both parents and kids.

Families concerned about the prevalence of violent gaming content will soon have a new option to offer their children – an interactive Clifford game will also be launched alongside the series reboot.

“Clifford has been a favorite with children and families for generations, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this Big Red Dog to PBS Kids audiences across the country,” Sara DeWitt, senior vice president and general manager of PBS Kids and Education, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Giving kids the skills, knowledge, and encouragement they need to connect with others and sustain relationships is more vital than ever to prepare them for success in school and life.”

“Clifford the Big Red Dog” emerged as a book written by Norman Bridwell, published by Scholastic in 1963. More than 135 million books were printed in 20 languages, inspiring the 2021 feature film.

“This new series builds on Clifford’s most endearing traits through fresh storytelling, creating new opportunities for audiences and marking an exciting step in the continued growth of the franchise,” Iole Lucchese, Scholastic chief strategy officer, president of Scholastic Entertainment, and executive producer for Clifford, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Highlighting the new direction they’ll be taking with the upcoming project, president and CEO of 9 Story Media Group Vince Commisso said,  “We’re leaning into a more comedic approach that amplifies the scale and playfulness of Clifford, while staying grounded in the warmth and emotional connection audiences have always loved.”

“We’re also proud to once again partner with PBS Kids, a trusted home for a brand that has resonated with families for generations.” (RELATED: Disney’s ‘Parent Trap’ Child Star Hayley Mills Reveals She Lost Her Fortune To Taxes)

In addition to Clifford’s return, the early literacy program “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures,” a spinoff of “Super Why!” and “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures” shorts, will premiere on PBS Kids October 5, 2026.
