CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner on Thursday spelled out the potentially worrying consequence of Donald Trump’s apparent habit of nodding off during daytime public events.
Reiner, a one-time cardiologist for late Vice President Dick Cheney, told “The Lead” anchor Jake Tapper that the president’s “daytime somnolence, his sleepiness” is “not really a mystery.”
“He doesn’t sleep at night. He’s up posting on social media in the middle of the night,” Reiner pointed out. “But the net effect is that he’s sleepy during the day and this has a real concern.”
“The president is very sleepy during the day; does his staff have to curtail the length of briefings that he has?” Reiner asked. “It’s not just a vanity thing; the president falls asleep. Have they had to curtail his daily CIA briefings?”
The White House has previously dismissed Trump’s apparent dozing as just blinking.
Reiner’s comments came during a broader discussion with Tapper on Trump’s health after The Washington Post reported that the president was evaluated by 22 medical specialists as part of his recent physical examination.
Reiner said on X that there were still “lingering questions concerning the president’s recent medical exam.”
He added, “One big question: Why were so many (22) consultants brought in to evaluate the president?”
