Eric Trump offered a curious response in a ProPublica report on how Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev reportedly bankrolled part of his brother Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding celebrations in the Bahamas in May.
A spokesperson for Trump Jr. described Kremlev, who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as “a personal friend of Don” and “not someone he has a business relationship with” in the piece.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Trump Jr.’s new wife, Bettina Trump, described Kremlev as a “dear friend” of the couple, saying he’d “very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding.”
“It was an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend, and something for which we were and remain incredibly grateful,” she wrote.
Kremlev’s own press team said he and Trump Jr. had enjoyed “a friendly relationship” after first meeting “a couple of years ago.”
Eric Trump, however, apparently had no idea who he was.
“Eric has absolutely no clue who this person is, nor has never heard his name,” a spokesperson for the Trump scion told ProPublica.
A Trump Organization spokesperson, meanwhile, told The Daily Beast: “Eric is neither a friend, nor does he know who this person is. He was incredibly honored to attend his brother’s wedding.”
