Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was sentenced Monday to four years in prison after being convicted on rape charges.

Hoiby was charged with sexually assaulting four women between 2018 and 2024 while they were asleep or otherwise unable to resist, according to CBC. He was found guilty in March on two counts of rape and acquitted on two other rape charges. Hoiby denied the allegations.

Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad also convicted the 29-year-old of domestic violence against his former girlfriend, Nora Haukland, according to TMZ. During the trial, the court heard that he repeatedly punched her in the face, choked her, slammed a door into her face, and threw objects at her.

Hoiby, who heard the verdict via video link from prison due to health issues, had faced a total of 40 criminal charges, including assault, drug-related crimes, and violations of a restraining order.

Hoiby doesn’t hold an official royal title but is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a relationship prior her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to Norway’s throne.

Mette-Marit suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and is awaiting a lung transplant. She also faced backlash for her previous connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to CBC.
