Sarah Matthews, a Trump White House first-term deputy press secretary-turned-Trump critic, on Sunday raised what she described as the “terrifying” prospect of Stephen Miller replacing Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff.
“It seems like Trump is unhappy with the way things are right now and the headlines and the way his administration is going, so he is seeming to blame Susie Wiles, is what it sounds like, and she’s kind of on the outs, and he’s been doing his favorite thing, which is calling around, seeing what people think of different names that he floats if he chooses to replace her.”

“Publicly, he has said that he’s sticking with Susie, but we know that he’s making these calls. And one of those names is Stephen Miller,” continued Matthews.
It’s a “terrifying prospect,” she argued, “because I think that Susie Wiles, while she is complicit in the horrors of this administration, I don’t think she’s crazy.”
“Stephen Miller is batshit crazy,” she said, suggesting that the idea of someone like him coming in for the final two years of Trump’s presidency when Trump is “spiraling because he’s a lame duck president” would be “a very scary thing.”
Matthews, who worked alongside Miller, one of the architects of the Trump administration’s hardline anti-immigration agenda, during her time in the White House, said the pair “weren’t particularly close.”
