Lady Gaga forced a spectacle of demonic imagery on fans May 14 by enacting a funeral procession to promote her film, “Mayhem Requiem.”
The famous singer mourned her previous Mayhem era by seemingly reinventing herself in an eyebrow-raising interpretation of the Roman Catholic requiem for the dead. Traditionally associated with prayers and ceremonies for deceased loved ones, Gaga’s reference leaned into a morbid, art-driven aesthetic marked by unsettling visuals, including men in white dresses collapsing at her feet while tossing blood-red rose petals toward the star. Framed as provocation rather than entertainment, the moment delivered yet another headline-grabbing, brain-numbing appearance that encapsulates everything that’s wrong with Hollywood.

Gaga led 40 obedient performers through a funeral procession at The Grove, a shopping center in Los Angeles. The singer was backed by a marching band that played slowed-down versions of her hit songs.
Dressed in a gothic red and black dress, and waving a dramatic, oversized black lace fan, Gaga pushed the boundaries of art and entertainment with her funeral-like staging and dark symbolism.

Her entourage included a man dressed in a black dress, a stark contrast to the other men in white dresses, who continued frolicking while tossing red rose petals around Gaga, who may as well have been lying in a casket at this point.

Fans coming to see the movie were met with an eerie funeral display that leaned heavily into dark symbolism and landed as disturbing rather than entertaining. In a world full of conflict and strife, many turn to entertainment for escapism, and this simply misses the mark. (RELATED: Lady Gaga Admits To Taking Lithium After Breakdown)

Gaga built her career on shock value and costuming, but the demonic displays feel overdone, and the grim parade of death is one we could have done without.
