MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Thursday hammered Donald Trump over some of the “utterly insane, breathtakingly stupid things” he has said in recent days on the 2026 midterms campaign trail.
One remark in particular, O’Donnell argued, was “the stupidest statement a wartime president could ever make.”
Trump this week claimed that his war on Iran “will end very soon.”
“It’s going to end very soon, as soon as I want it to end, it will end,” said the president.
O’Donnell tore into the comment and what he thought it implied:
“No wartime president of the United States has ever said, ‘As soon as I want the war to end, it will end.’ And so what Donald Trump told American voters last night is, ‘I don’t want the war to end. I don’t want the war to end today. I don’t want the war to end tomorrow. I don’t want the war to end next week.’ Donald Trump is saying, ‘It’s my war, and it will end whenever I want it to end. And because I’m not out there fighting it myself, I do not want it to end.’”
The host added, “It is the stupidest statement a wartime president could ever make, especially to voters who are overwhelmingly opposed to Donald Trump’s war.”
