CNN’s Van Jones opined that he was not taking enjoyment from the arraignment of former President Donald Trump and he was lambasted by many on the left over it.
Trump was arraigned in Manhattan on Tuesday for 34 counts of allegedly falsifying business records as a part of the investigation into hush money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Van Jones said on CNN that he was opposed to the prison system and pointed out that Trump looked downcast in video from the arraignment.
“He looks sad. He looks like the weight of it is hittin’ him,” said Jones on the video.
“And you know just as a human being, I don’t take joy. I don’t like the prison system, I don’t like what it does to people, so I don’t like this process, I don’t take any celebration in seeing him looking that way,” he explained.
“Doesn’t mean that accountability is not owed, we don’t know what he’s going to be charged with, there’s a lot more, but at that moment, that is not a conquerer, that is a granddad having a very bad day,” Jones concluded.
His comments were circulated on social media by those critical of the left-wing pundit.
“As a community, we need to organize how and when to pull up on Van Jones. I had to turn off CNN. He kept trying to make Trump a victim of an unjust court system,” tweeted Ola Ojewumi, a disability lifestyle writer. “Why attempt to humanize Trump as a grandfather and parent when he used his power as President to dehumanize us?”
“Obama fired his dumb ass for being worthless – he was a complete waste of space and still is,” read another tweet.
“This isn’t a grandpa getting arrested at Walmart for stealing Geritol. This is a klanpa who paid hush money for his illicit affairs and whose decades of criminal behavior has finally caught up to him. Be fcuking for real Van Jones!” responded talk show host Reecie Colbert.
“Van Jones, click clacking for white people, per usual,” said another critic.
“Van jones is one of the dumbest motherf***ers on tv,” read another tweet simply.
Trump pleaded not guilty to the 34 counts. It was the first time a former U.S. president had been criminally charged in all of U.S. history.
