The New York Post announced plans Monday to launch The California Post, a new outlet based in Los Angeles.
The new outlet will cover politics, business, entertainment, and more through a distinctly West Coast lens, bringing Post-style irreverence to a state often dominated by legacy liberal media. The newsroom will be headquartered in Los Angeles, with coverage focused both on the city and California at large. “Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated,” News Corp CEO Robert Thomson told the Post. “We are at a pivotal moment for the city and the state, and there is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit.”

The California Post will feature both a dedicated homepage and daily print edition, with backing from the East Coast to deliver national and international coverage, according to the Post.
“This is the next manifestation of our national brand,” New York Post Editor-in-Chief Keith Poole said. “California is the most populous state in the country, and is the epicenter of entertainment, the AI revolution and advanced manufacturing — not to mention a sports powerhouse. Yet many stories are not being told, and many viewpoints are not being represented.”
“With The California Post, we will bring a common-sense, issue-based approach to metropolitan journalism,” he added.
Founded by Alexander Hamilton in 1801, the New York Post is one of the oldest newspapers in the country. California now represents the Post’s second-largest readership, with more than 7 million readers across the state, the outlet said.
The California Post is expected to debut in early 2026.
