Republican AG’s Resignation Could Cause Ripple Effect Through Entire State

The Attorney General of Ohio, Dave Yost, is expected to resign Thursday, a report claims, possibly leading to chaos within the state as the midterms approach.

After 25 years serving in state government, Yost is reportedly set to offer his resignation to accept a job in the private sector, the Statehouse News Bureau reported. (RELATED: Another Soros Prosecutor Is In The House GOP’s Crosshairs)

If Yost does resign immediately, it would leave his spot vacant for eight months leading into the next election.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine would then need to appoint somebody to fill the attorney general’s role. Although DeWine could appoint the Republican nominee for attorney general, Keith Faber, to the role, that would only shift the vacancy, as Faber currently serves as state auditor, requiring DeWine to find another placeholder appointee, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

In fact, it’s possible the same problem would continue down the line, as every sitting statewide Republican, other than Yost and DeWine, is either running for another office or currently holds one, the Dispatch reported.

Yost had run for governor until President Donald Trump endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy in 2025. Yost then dropped out of the race, and Ramaswamy won the Republican primary for governor Tuesday, beating out car designer and racing team owner Casey Putsch, according to NPR.

Yost’s bio says that after graduating from The Ohio State University and receiving a law degree from Capital University, he served in public office as a county auditor and moved up the state political ladder before beginning his first term as the state’s attorney general in 2019.

DeWine could avoid the issue by replacing Yost, or any other Republican down the line of candidates, with a placeholder who has no intention of running for office.

Yost has not yet announced his possible resignation, nor has he or DeWine responded to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
