After revealing a health scare in June, Simone Biles has shared another development with her fans. The seven-time Olympic medalist posted an Instagram Story on Thursday featuring a photo of Biles in surgical attire, accompanied by her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens.
“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote affectionately. The photo is from July 22, indicating that Biles had already undergone the procedure at the time of posting. The 29-year-old donned a hospital gown, hair net in the photo.

The post is the first update in over a month from Biles, who shared news of a purported near-death experience on June 15.
“Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” Biles wrote last month, adding that she typically preserves her privacy in such circumstances, but felt compelled to share her recent experience.
She called it “one of, if not the scariest experience of her life.”
In Biles’ photo, her wrist showed multiple hospital bands, including a red band, along with what appeared to be a medical dressing likely covering an IV site. However, the significance of the bands was not disclosed.
According to Biles, she was put on bed rest immediately following the incident.
Though Biles did not disclose the cause of her hospital visit or the nature of her diagnosis and recovery, she shared that she plans to explain the situation to the public “sooner or later.”
In the weeks following the first incident, Biles has remained quiet but has made public appearances – most recently at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City – and traveled abroad, and just returned from the Dominican Republic.

While Biles has been removed from gymnastics for the two years following the Paris Olympic Games, her health update comes in the wake of groundbreaking comeback announcements in the sport.
Biles’ teammate, 2020 Olympic all-around Champion Suni Lee, announced her comeback in mid-July. With her decision, Lee joins 2024 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera on the comeback trail.
Former elite prodigy and NCAA sensation Katelyn Ohashi just made her return to the American and U.S. Classic competitions after 13 years away. At 29 years old and having undergone breast augmentation surgery in 2025, many suspect that Simone Biles is done with competitive gymnastics.
However, Biles says she remains undecided on a run at her fourth-straight Olympic team. For now, fans hold their breath and wish her well.
